The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Northwestern University invites applications for two full-time, tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level. One position targets candidates working in regenerative engineering, including biomaterials, cell engineering, and tissue engineering. The second position targets candidates working in computational biomechanics, particularly at the interface of rehabilitation, neural engineering, and artificial intelligence, with applications to neural, sensory, and musculoskeletal systems. The successful candidate for the computational biomechanics position may have the opportunity to hold an approximately 20% appointment in the Feinberg School of Medicine.
These two areas are the primary priorities for the current search; however, outstanding candidates across the broader field of biomedical engineering are also encouraged to apply. About the Opportunity Applicants should submit the following materials:
• Cover Letter: ~1 page, brief statement of suitability for the position. Near the top of your cover letter, indicate whether your primary alignment is with regenerative engineering, computational biomechanics, both, or another area of biomedical engineering.
• Curriculum vitae
• Contact information for three references
• Research Statement: 3-5 pages, summarizing past research accomplishments and future research plans
• Teaching and Mentoring Statement: 1-2 pages, summarizing experience and plans for teaching and student mentoring
Faculty in Northwestern BME are embedded across the University, with strong connections to other engineering departments within the McCormick School of Engineering and to clinical research in the Feinberg School of Medicine. These connections provide extensive opportunities for faculty to build collaborative, interdisciplinary, and translational research teams. BME faculty currently secure greater than $35M in annual research funding and direct 5 NIH T32 training programs. BME faculty lead or participate in several university-wide collaborative research Centers and Institutes, including the Center for Advanced Regenerative Engineering, the Center for Physical Genomics Engineering, the Center for Engineering in Vision and Ophthalmology, the Querrey Simpson Institute for Bioelectronics, the Lurie Cancer Center, the Center for Synthetic Biology, and the Center for Innovative Global Health Technologies. We also have established strengths in neural engineering, biomedical imaging (MRI, biophotonics), and biomechanics/rehabilitation engineering.
